It was brought to our attention that the links to preview ASPS and Keepsakes were coming up restricted! We have gone in and fixed the permissions, so they should both be publicly viewable now. Apologies to anyone who'd clicked to look and was asked to request permission. You can now freely read them over!

Shiny Glowy Math Rocks!

And in case you missed the change on the main page, here are the handmade production samples of the ASPS and Keepsakes dice and coin tokens!

No, those aren't renders!

And that beautiful pink and blue? It's by LIT, so not only does it glow but will hold that shine longer than other glow in the dark dice and after a shorter exposure.

Evolution of Dicecraft

We haven't posted pictures of the exclusive bronze d% set yet, and I'm going to walk you through part of why. They are, as you can see, a very lovely metallic bronze.

But - what colour to ink those beautiful lines?

We have explored a few options:

gold and silver inks
teal and green inks

Hmmmmm. None of these quite grabbed us as right. So we tried a few more:

leadbelcher and tin pitz inks
thrash metal and p3 inks

Getting closer but still not quite there. The p3 ink is pretty nice, but at some angles disappears entirely, which you don't want your dice to do!

Back to the drawing board.

Well, we're aiming for clockpunk, what other colours might work? Copper oxidizes into a very interesting shade of green. So we explore that direction.

exploring shades 1
exploring shades 2
exploring shades 3

Okay, now we may be on to something. Let's do a test with that last one:

verdigris

Hmm. Closer, but still not quite there. Bit too blue, but now it's starting to pop. A little more exploring finds us this:

clockpunk beetle

Okay, now we're getting somewhere! Something iridescent, a green based colour shift. Goes well with the metallics, still very clockpunk, and reminiscent of insects found in actual nature.

We come up with these two possibilities. They're powders, the ink will have to be handmade and the colour saturation toyed with to find the exact right balance. But I think, once we have it right, these dice will STUN. Current leaning is to the latter [the former is more expensive by almost half] but we may experiment with it if the softer side doesn't quite do it, as it will need a darker or black base applied beneath to make the most of its vividness.

more evocative of a hard carapice or metal panel
softer more pearlescent colour shift, changing from green to yellow, blue, and even purple

And there you have it - the work that goes into finding the right shades to ensure the dice we make for you are exactly right. And that's just the ink!
